I am pleased to share an update on the development of the CSHM Monitor, our Society’s industrial publication dedicated to showcasing structural health monitoring projects, products, and processes from around the world. Under the leadership of our Editor‑in‑Chief, Dr. Farnaz Raeisi, P. Eng. the Monitor is being shaped as an industry‑focused resource that will also be of strong interest to universities and government agencies.
Dr. Raeisi has provided a message outlining her vision and strategy for the Monitor. Her statement will appear separately following this announcement.
To support this initiative, I invite all members, colleagues, and contacts to communicate directly with Dr. Raeisi and share your experiences, case studies, and insights for possible publication in the Monitor. Your contributions will help strengthen the connection between our Society and the industries we serve.

| Message from the Editor in Chief
The Monitor: A Global Resource for Structural Health Monitoring of Civil Infrastructure
The Monitor is an international publication focused on advancing Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) as a practical and essential tool for evaluating the condition and performance of civil infrastructure. Its mission is to provide clear, field‑proven knowledge that supports engineers, researchers, and public agencies in making informed decisions about the safety, maintenance, and long‑term resilience of bridges, buildings, transportation networks, and other critical assets.
The publication features real‑world SHM projects from around the globe, offering insight into how sensing systems, data analytics, and long‑term monitoring strategies are applied in practice. It also highlights emerging technologies, including advanced sensors, wireless platforms, and AI‑based diagnostic tools that are reshaping how structural behaviour is assessed. In addition, The Monitor reports on codes, standards, and best practices that guide infrastructure evaluation, ensuring that readers remain aligned with evolving engineering requirements.
By focusing on practical implementation, The Monitor bridges the gap between research and field application, helping accelerate the adoption of effective SHM methods and strengthening global collaboration in the civil‑infrastructure community.

Mission and Mandate of The Monitor
Mission
The Monitor serves as the practical, application‑focused communication platform of the International Society for Civil Structural Health Monitoring (SCSHM). Its mission is to share accessible, timely, and relevant information on Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) practices, innovations, and community achievements. Unlike scholarly journals, The Monitor emphasizes real‑world applications, field experiences, emerging technologies, and news that strengthen the global SHM community.
Mandate
The Monitor is mandated to:
- Highlight practical SHM applications by publishing short notes that describe field implementations, case examples, and lessons learned from bridges, buildings, and other infrastructure.
- Showcase new SHM products and services, providing members with concise updates on emerging tools, technologies, and commercial developments in the SHM market.
- Promote new SHM‑related books, offering brief descriptions written by authors or readers to keep the community informed of important publications.
- Share timely updates of interest to SCSHM members, including news items, conference announcements, workshop summaries, notable papers, and other developments in the SHM field.
- Recognize the achievements of SCSHM members, such as awards, promotions, and special distinctions.
- Maintain high-quality visual and written standards, ensuring that all submissions follow the required formatting, image specifications, and ethical guidelines.
- Support a consistent publication cycle, with four seasonal editions and clearly defined submission deadlines.
- Provide an accessible entry point for contributors, encouraging participation from practitioners, researchers, students, and industry professionals who wish to share practical insights rather than academic manuscripts.

THE MONITOR SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
We invite contributions in one of the following forms:
- SHM research or application short note: Article containing 250-500 words, and 1-2 figures and/or tables with captions.
- New SHM product or service: Article describing in 150-250 and 1 figure of a new product and /or service that appeared in SHM market
- New SHM-related book: Article describing a new book on SHM in 250-500 words; this article can be written either by the author or by a reader
- Updates related to SHM that might be of interest to members, such as (but not limited to): short news (e.g., from newspapers), events (e.g., conferences, workshops, etc.), articles or books in SHM that attract particular attention (e.g., the best papers in journals or conferences, the most downloaded papers, etc.).
- Information on any award, promotion or special recognition received by a SCSHM members.
Articles submitted to Monitor should not mimic the JCSHM – Journal for Civil Structural Health Monitoring or other scholarly journals papers but should describe practical field applications of SHM used in bridges, buildings and other infrastructure.
The following are guidelines for the submission process and guidelines for “The Monitor”.
Word file in the following format – Times New Roman font, 12 point. No columns please.
Images to be submitted as a jpg – 300 DPI or higher, and 2.87 x 3.62 inches or 6 x 7.5 inches.
All images, photos, graphs and tables MUST be sent separate from the file it accompanies.
Graphics and tables print ready in jpg format.
Do not imbed pictures into Word documents.
Images of lower quality may be refused.
If you do not have permissions to use a copyrighted image do not submit it.
NO PDF formats will be accepted.

When you have your content ready for submission, send all files, attached in an email to the Editor in Chief. In the subject line please indicate: Monitor Article Submission.
