Honours and Awards

Honours, Awards, and Fellows of SCSHM

SCSHM is committed to recognizing excellence, leadership, and outstanding contributions to the advancement of Structural Health Monitoring and Civionics. Through its Honours and Awards program, the Society celebrates individuals and teams whose work has significantly influenced research, professional practice, innovation in Civil Structural Health Monitoring (CSHM), and distinguished research achievements that advance the science and global impact of SHM and Civionics. Awards are presented for accomplishments in research, education, service to the Society, and contributions that strengthen the international SHM community.

Among the Society’s highest distinctions, the Aftab Mufti Medal is awarded in two categories: one honouring a distinguished member for Lifetime Achievement in advancing SHM and Civionics, and the other presented annually for the Best Paper published in the Journal of Civil Structural Health Monitoring. In addition, the Farhad and Linda Ansari Medal recognizes an outstanding early‑career member who has demonstrated exceptional promise as a professional in CSHM or shown notable research leadership within the field.

The society formally acknowledges distinguished members by conferring the title of SCSHM Fellow. This prestigious designation is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional technical accomplishments, sustained leadership, and meaningful service to the Society and the broader SHM community. Election as a Fellow reflects the highest level of professional recognition offered by SCSHM.

The Honours and Awards program reinforces the Society’s mission to promote excellence, encourage innovation, and celebrate the individuals who shape the future of SHM and Civionics.
